چکیده

This paper compares two control charts: Tukey (TCC) and individual/moving range (XmR) control charts. Both are designed to examine single observation per time period, but little is known about which one is more efficient and under what conditions. We simulated data from different distributions and examined the performance of the two control charts on these data. Performance was assessed using the of average run length, extra quadratic loss, median run length, standard deviation run length, performance comparison index, and relative average run length. Overall, TCC was more efficient than XmR, when observations had binomial, Rayleigh, logistic, lognormal, Maxwell, normal, Poisson, Weibull (with α=10, β =1), and Student’s t (30 and 10 degrees of freedom) distributions. XmR was more efficient when observations had Student’s t (with 4 degrees of freedom) and gamma (with α=4, β =1) distributions. These results suggest that improvement teams could reach faster conclusions if they use TCC in most common situations. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Robust economic-statistical design of the EWMA-R control charts for phase II linear profile monitoring

Control charts are powerful tools to monitor quality characteristics of services or production processes. However, in some processes, the performance of process or product cannot be controlled by monitoring a characteristic; instead, they require to be controlled by a function that usually refers as a profile. This study suggests employing exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) and range ...

Control chart based on residues: Is a good methodology to detect outliers?

The purpose of this article is to evaluate the application of forecasting models along with the use of residual control charts to assess production processes whose samples have autocorrelation characteristics. The main objective is to determine the efficiency of control charts for individual observations (CCIO) and exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) charts when they are applied to res...

Analysis of Batting Performance in Cricket using Individual and Moving Range (MR) Control Charts

Abstract. In cricket the performance of the players whether bowler or batsman is being analyzed with the help of very simple statistical tools. Mostly average scores, strike rate, average runs per wicket are being used. The main idea of this research study is to give the application of quality control charts in evaluating the performance of the players. We have made the comparative study of the...

A Moving Avarage Variation Control Chart based on Bayesian Predictive Density

Recently several control charts have been introduced in the  statistical process control  literature which are based on the idea of Bayesian Predictive Density (BPD).  Among these charts is the variation control chart which we refer to it as VBPD chart. In this paper we add the idea of Moving Average to VBPD chart and introduce a new variation control chart which has all advantages of the ...

Individual and Moving Ratio Charts for Weibull Processes

This article proposes methods for monitoring Weibull processes when data collection is restricted to one observation per sampling period. Because the Weibull distribution is an asymmetric distribution, it is not appropriate to apply normal-based individuals-movingrange charts to Weibull data. A transformation of Weibull to approximate normality prior to applying normal-based methods has been su...
